Geography Teaching is a journal supervised by the Ministry of Education and sponsored by East China Normal University. It was first published in September 1959 by renowned geography educator Chu Shaotang and others from the Department of Geography at East China Normal University. It is the first specialized geography education publication established after the founding of the People's Republic of China, with the aim of exploring the direction of geography teaching reform, exchanging teaching experiences among geography teachers, and providing teaching-related materials. Its mission is to serve geography teaching, foster a humanistic spirit, and disseminate geographical knowledge and teaching concepts to geography educators. Initially published irregularly, it later evolved into a bimonthly, monthly, and eventually a semi-monthly publication in response to reader demand and disciplinary development. Geography Teaching is the official journal of the Geography Teaching Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Education and a key source for China Social Science Excellence. It has been selected as a core Chinese journal in the 2017 and 2023 editions and holds a broad readership and academic influence in the geography education community across China.
As a core academic journal promoting the development of geography education, the editorial committee of Geography Teaching consists of well-known experts and scholars in geography education and teaching in China.
