Abstract

The spatial layout of“house-field elevation”in traditional villages is an important manifestation of residents’adaptation to the geographical environment and the realization of human-environment coordination. It is also one of the core contents of the“Regional Culture and Urban-Rural Landscape”module in high school geography. Taking the high school geography textbook published by People’s Education Press as the research object, this article combines geography examination questions from the 2025 college entrance examination and explores the geographical environment adaptation logic of two layout patterns:“house high and fi eld low”and“house low and fi eld high”through case comparative analysis and mechanism induction. The research finds that there is no fixed paradigm for the relationship between “house-field elevation”in traditional villages, and its core depends on the comprehensive eff ects of natural factors such as topography, hydrology, and climate. The examination questions strengthen the core viewpoint of“settlement layout and geographical environment adaptability”in the textbook through real regional contexts, rather than an absolute examination of“house-fi eld elevation”. The research conclusion can provide a reference for high school geography teaching: it is necessary to break the single-mode cognition, use the textbook as the foundation and examination questions as a bridge, guide students to analyze the spatial logic of settlements from the perspective of geographical environment adaptation, and deepen the understanding and application of human-environment relationship.
