Abstract
Process thought is a rational understanding formed by people by exploring the relevant problems of geographical
elements and the evolution process of geographical complexes. This article, based on the viewpoints of geographers on
geographical processes, summarizes the key points of process thought-dynamic drive, process continuity, process rhythm,
process stage, process unity and spatio-temporal synthesis. By adopting the special analysis method of middle school
geography textbooks, it is found that the process thought of the People’s Education Edition Selective Compulsory Course 1
“Fundamentals of Physical Geography”is manifested in four aspects: with matter movement and energy exchange as the
main line, the total-division-total structure is formed; pay attention to clarifying the dynamic conditions, action processes,
results and effects of natural geographical processes; highlight the comprehensiveness of time and space that reflects the
process of thought; the process idea is presented in the form of a combination of text, images and activity systems. Five
teaching orientations have been summarized: connecting natural geographical processes with material movement and
energy exchange as the main thread; Sort out the natural geographical processes in the form of“cause - process - result and
impact”. Understand natural geographical processes by dividing scales from a comprehensive perspective of time and space;
Dynamically present natural geographical processes in combination with information technology; Highlight the cultivation
of students’core literacy in geography disciplines such as“comprehensive thinking”and“human-nature coordination
concept”.
