Abstract

The geographical causal logic chain serves as a foundational cognitive framework for cultivating discipline-specifi c core competencies in geography education. Its systematic application signifi cantly enhances students’structural knowledge integration and holistic analytical reasoning. This study clarifies the conceptual underpinnings of the geographical causal logic chain and proposes a structured modeling approach anchored on the causal hub (R), guided by the dual principles of backward tracing and forward extension. Drawing upon four defining attributes—complex hierarchical nesting, contextdependent causality, temporal-spatial dynamism, and systemic comprehensiveness—we operationalize this framework through a case analysis of the“Natural Resources and Their Utilization”unit in the People’s Education Press Senior High School Geography Elective Course III. Constructive pathway is developed: (1) scale clarifi cation, (2) elemental analysis, (3) chain expansion, and (4) rigorous validation. Empirical insights indicate that this methodology enables learners to synthesize fragmented geographical knowledge into coherent causal narratives, thereby strengthening logical reasoning capacity. Moreover, it off ers educators a theoretically grounded, pedagogically actionable strategy for curriculum implementation and core competency development.
