A Unit Teaching Design of the “Understanding Weather and Climate” for Cultivating Spatio-Temporal Comprehensive Thinking

Abstract

Spatio-temporal integrated thinking is not only an important way of thinking in geography but also a key component in the cultivation of core literacy in geography courses. During the junior high school stage, by means of the comprehensive thinking of time and space, students can systematically understand the completeness, orderliness, correlation, integrity and constraints of various natural elements in the dimensions of time and space. This article takes cultivating students’comprehensive thinking in time and space as its core objective. Taking the“Weather and Climate”unit teaching as a case, it explores the disciplinary logic and teaching logic of“understanding Weather and Climate”from the perspective of comprehensive time and space, and designs the overall teaching of the unit. This paper, by formulating unit teaching objectives that integrate spatio-temporal comprehensive thinking, carrying out unit teaching activities aimed at cultivating spatiotemporal comprehensive thinking, and conducting unit evaluations oriented towards spatio-temporal comprehensive thinking, eff ectively enhances students’spatio-temporal comprehensive thinking, with the expectation of providing practical references for junior high school geography unit teaching oriented towards cultivating spatio-temporal comprehensive thinking.
